Ebola: What is the true risk?

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria (e.g., MRSA & MDR-TB) and viruses (e.g., flu) constantly mutate. A mutant or variant strain can result in a pandemic. Can we believe our Government’s claims that Ebola is under control? History of Ebola and its ”cousin” Marburg suggest we are being misled.

Ebola virus in humans first occurred in 1976 where 430 of ~600 infected people died and it reoccurred again 1995. Both outbreaks were near the Ebola River in Dem. Republic of Congo (Zaire). In 1967 Marburg infected 31 people in Marburg, Germany. Seven died. Russia’s Biopreparat (the Russian organization secretly charted to develop & produce bio-weapons using viruses, toxins, and bacteria) developed and tested bio-weapons using a variant strain of Marburg, and later other weapons using Ebola. This Russian information is from Ken Alibek, who until 1992 was First Deputy Chief of Biopreparat. Alibek fled to the U. S. in 1992 and wrote the book Biohazard in 2000.

It is not clear how Ebola and Marburg weapons dispensed these viruses, but clearly the claim of “difficult to transmit” is not true give Russia’s success. Adding this to the fact viruses do regularly mutate, I conclude we are intentionally being mislead.

Is the public message aimed at avoiding panic or strictly political strategy for the upcoming election?
